What is Prepare for Success?

Prepare for Success is an interactive pre-arrival learning tool for international students who are getting ready to come to the UK to study. It contains twenty two different learning resources on themes connected with academic life in the UK. International students can find out what British academic life is like and what kind of academic skills they will need for effective study. As well as preparing students for what to expect during their studies, the activities also provides scope for language improvement*.

* Prepare for Success is intended primarily for international students whose first language is not English. It is aimed at students with an IELTS level between 5.0 and 7.5 or equivalent.

Technical requirements and accessibility

Some of the activities in Prepare for Success require headphones or speakers. Java Runtime Environment 5 or above, Adobe Flash Player 6 or above, and Apple Quicktime 7 or above, also need to be installed on your computer.

These learning materials meet WCAG 2.0 accessibility guidelines and use technologies which are supported by accessible user agents, including assistive technologies. Accessible versions are available for any activities that normally require the use of a mouse. These activities can be done using a keyboard.

*Please note: We have discovered a compatibility issue when using Prepare for Success on Firefox on a Macintosh. We are currently searching for a solution to this, but in the meantime please try another browser.

Conditions of use

You are granted a non-exclusive licence to use Prepare for Success for non-commercial educational purposes in the following ways:
- by linking to the homepage or individual pages from your institutional website or from within a VLE
- by accessing the homepage and individual pages in order to use it for independent study if you are a student

The intellectual property rights in Prepare for Success shall at all times remain the property of the creators. You may not disassemble, decompile or reverse engineer any of the 22 individual learning resources which comprise Prepare for Success.

Information for institutions

Prepare for Success can be used for educational purposes by UK institutions. It may be used to enhance an institution's pre-arrival support package for its international students in various ways.
